Victorian Gold Shell Locket vauxhall glass 5mm - Width: 19DATE: Victorian, c. 1870 Cute antique shell locket modelled in 9ct gold. It dates from the 1870s, and opens to reveal the glass locket compartment within. In the Middle Ages, the scallop shell became associated with religious pilgrimages such as Granada to Santiago de Compostela in Spain but since much earlier the shell has been a symbol of fertility, and often associated with the Goddess Venus. MEASUREMENTS 1. 8 x 1. 7cm (not including jump ring)
