Staunton River Battlefield State Park

The park offers 300-acres of Civil War history where 700 Confederate men and boys held off an assault by 5,000 Union cavalry on a bridge of strategic importance to Gen. Lee’s army. Visit the Confederate earthworks and walk the historic bridge trail with a 1.2-mile self-guided tour. Two visitor centers feature the area’s rich Civil War heritage, Native American archaeological investigations, and electric energy resources. Climb two wildlife observation towers on a .75-mile wetlands nature trail.
