St. Mark’s Episcopal Church & Carroll-Boyd School
Mecklenburg County – One of the 53 sites along the Civil Rights in Education Heritage Trail®. Efforts by the Rev. James Solomon Russell (1857–1935) resulted in the organization of the congregation of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for African Americans both from St. Tammany (now Bracey) and from other parts of Mecklenburg County.
