Dogwood Trace Golf Course
A municipal golf course rated as one of Virginia’s premier courses by Golf Advisor has challenging par 3s and reachable par 5s with 419 Bermuda fairways and Bent Grass greens. It’s the “gem” of Petersburg. After an enjoyable day on the course, enjoy drinks or dinner at Anniebelle’s for fine southern cuisine in the clubhouse.
Lake Phoenix
Lake Phoenix is a scuba and camping park operated by The Phoenix Quarry Diving Company. The reservoir is approximately twenty (20) acres. The park offers Camping and Rental units (Primitive, RV and Cabin); scuba diving; swimming; and associated equipment rentals. The park is operated Mid-March through Mid-November. Fees apply.
Meherrin River
Flowing through largely agricultural and forested land, this 30-mile scenic river possesses a number of interesting aesthetic features including rock formations, several vegetated islands, sections of riffles, and a meandering alignment with interesting and inviting views downriver. Meherrin River offers canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming.
Blackstone Arts and Crafts Festival
The Blackstone Arts and Crafts Festival is held annually in September. It features a large number of talented vendors that showcase all types of artistic efforts. There’s music for all ages, a parade of antique tractors, custom and restored cars on display, and barrel train rides for children.
Bevell’s Model Train Display
Thousands of visitors view this spectacular sight each holiday season. The display is over 1,000 square feet of concentrated pure wonder featuring more than ten trains, with realistic dioramas that showcase nearly every type of scene imaginable. Animation of all types and replicas of local landmarks are also included.

Southside Electric Cooperative & Crewe Burkeville Chamber of Commerce Chicken Festival
The famous Chicken Festival is held every year in June at Southside Electric Cooperative’s Hooper Park in Crewe, VA. A ticket will give you all-youcan-eat chicken and beverages while listening to some of the best music in Southside. While there, you might just run into a politician or two, too.
Crewe Railroad Museum
Crewe, like its namesake in England, is well known as a railroad town. Visitors can climb on a diesel engine, a caboose, and vintage N&W steam engine # 606. All types of railroad memorabilia and history await visitors to the museum which adjoins a huge active Norfolk Southern rail yard.
